Butchering stock shocks to install Konis

Okay, I read the Honda Tuning article.. and other people's post... everyone says you gotta cut up the stock ones before installing Koins. WTF does Honda dealerships do when they have to replace OEM with OEM? I don't get it... why do we have to butcher? It makes sense when I read the article, but then again, I know the dealerships don't do the butcher jobs, so.... what's the dilly yo?

The dealerships replace the whole strut.....Its a full swap,,,old one out new one in........It would be to expensive for Koni to make the full front with the control arm bracket on it,, so the Koni's slide in to the hacked OEM housings that already have the control bracket on them.......Cheaper this way........

If you want a full replacement, you'll probably have to wait. But since our cars have MacPhearson struts, likely we'll only get inserts for a while since a full strut replacement would be VERY expensive!!

tokico's are supposed to be full struts... some say they're supposed to come out in sept and should be around the same price as koni inserts

I'm going to lower my car soon, but didn't want to cut the original front strut housing, but didn't want to wait forever since I saved up the money now. I went to www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and bought a new set of factory strut and housings for the front. $104 for each side, but I figure it is better than waiting and will help me if I ever go back to factory for warranty purposes or something. Also if I screw up the drilling/cutting I'm not screwed, but just out $104.
