Rockford Power 250.2 voltage dropping to 6v
I had an earlier post where my sub wasnt getting any power from the amp (or so it seemed)...
Well I finally got it going and here's what happened:
First off, it seemed fairly quiet. I imagine 250watts bridged RMS from the RF should sound fairly loud powering a Infinity perfect 12.1, however it was very underwhelming. So after about 5min, I turned off the car, and set the gain up (my RCA pre-outs are only 2v). When I put the car on again, no power light on the AMP came on. So I checked the voltage across the +/- and I was reading ~6v with the power on, ~7v with the engine on. If I measure across the same terminals with the car & power off (ie the amp is off and not attempting to turn on), i get ~12v+ across those terminals. What I'm lead to believe is that in attempting to turn itself on, the amp is drawing so much power, its dropping to 6v, which it cannot operate at. How/why this is happening is beyond me.
Anyone have any ideas?
ps. the fuse on the powerline is 30A, and its still fine, hasn't blown.

check the resistance of the power wire..and the check the resistance at the amp of the ground wire by putting 1 lead on the amps ground..and one on the trunk latch..and see what # you get..otherwise the amps the cause
