Apexi N1...Hows it sound peeps?
well there are a few things to say about those exhausts.
A)Apex'i N1 was the origional exhuast with that style of tip and canister. So they set the trend. The N1 also is not legal, at least it isnt in california. A friend of mine has it on his MR2 and he says that it shoots flames.
B)Skunk2, ive heard good things about this system, infact i was thinkin about getting this system, but then changed my mind at the last second. It probably has the least amount of quality out of the three. But it is a full cat-back. Im not sure if the N1 is a cat-back, rear section, or universal.
C)HKS, this is where i put my money. I just ordered mine today. HKS has the highest quality out of the three. It is 50 state legal, will pass CARB, and has a deep tone to die for. HKS is only the rear section, but dont let this discurrage you. I was talking with James at product planning for HKS and he said that they stopped production on teh cat-back for the following reasons:
1) it was too loud, it wasnt going to pass the 95dbz CARB limitations, and when they added a silencer they lost about 10% of the HP
2) the cat-back lost low end torque, which would only suggest no back pressure
3) the difference between the rear section, and the cat-back in terms of hp was only about 1-2 hp
So they concluded, get more performance, let it be legal, save huge money, and still has a dyno tuned exhaust system that lives up to the HKS name from only the rear section.
What it comes down to, is personal preference. I put my money on something that has HIGH quality, gives the same performance as a cat-back, and still keeps the look of the N1. HKS is known for their deep, throaty sounding exhaust. It is probably the most quiet out of the three. Skunk2 is probably the next loudest with from what i hear from other people, a deep sounding exhuast. The N1 is by far the loudest, but still with that deep tone from what i understand.
I hope that this helps you in your decision, so that i sound really parcial towards HKS, but its a great name, and something to consider.
Peace~

thx for the info thus far, i want that loud sound, dont want quiet at all. Concerning the HKS, when u say it is the quietest out of the 3, do u mean it is still quite loud just that compared to the others its quieter or is it flat out quiet?
I was gonna wait to install body kit before exhaust but kit aint due till later this year and i want an exhaust so im pushin now to get it, thx for the info and keep it comin plz

stop being a PW.. anyways my friend has a N1 (n/a version - the 4" tip) w/ 2.25" piping and no resonator, and it sounds like crap. my other friend has just the n1 muffler w/ resonator on a p5, and it sounds clean.
n1 is too huge for my tastes.
