97 civic a/c issues
I have a 97 civic ex. Last year ac working rediculously perfect. Parked one night and when i came out next morning ac not working. No warnings or trouble before just stopped. I checked underhood relays and all fuses...all good. I ended up having mechanic put in a new compressor as old one was frozen up. The problem is after installing compressor motor wouldnt kick in electrically unless it had a jumper. We changed out the control unit after retesting all relays & fuses again and still no change. I asked him to just add a direct switch to compressor so i dont fry which works but its not the way its supposed to work and i want to fix it...can u folks help...thanks in advance
Re: 97 civic a/c issues
Compressors don't just seize overnight without warning. I suspect there wasn't anything wrong with it. And a mechanic that cannot troubleshoot a fairly simple electrical system?? Get a new mechanic.
It could be any number of things:
-Failed compressor clutch
-Bad relay (that electrically tests okay)
-Damaged/cut wires
-Failed low pressure switch
-Failed HVAC controls
-Etc.
