Boost Head Gasket

Hey guys! Have to replace the head gasket on the 1.7. Going to pick up a decent turbo kit for some boost. I will be port matching the head and using a quality kit. Will a cometic HG be enough for 7-10lbs? Will be using an ARB stud kit. Thanks

Re: Boost Head Gasket

TBH with studs a factory headgasket should be fine. So yes, a cometic will be fine.

What are your plans for internals?

After more research I think I will just stay stock on internals and stay under 8lbs. If it gives up the ghost I will look at a better set of rods and wiseco pistons and more boost.

I will only say this once because you seem determined, but you could also K swap. A K24a2 swap will get you 200 hp and 165 lb ft (granted at a much higher rpm). Can run a stock tune or get Kpro/tuned and make even more. Naturally aspirated so arguably more reliable for daily driving. Responds well to mods. Still tons of fun and feels very sporty. Night and day difference over the stock D17.

An upswap is never a bad idea. And I fully understand the d17 will peak pretty quick where as the K model engines have a much much higher ceiling. Honestly I want to have a fun little car that has the turbo sound as nd that woosh when you change gears lol. I was making 485hp at the wheels in my S4 but just wanted something different and knew this was going to be much slower. I do appreciate the advice as it's very good advice. I'm just going to throw a swirly bird on this for now 😂
