vtec works fine when cold but bucks at 3500rpm when up to OT.

I have a 2004 Honda civic EX sedan and it runs just fine up until it gets up to temp. When it is up to temp it bucks at 3.5k.

Just replaced head gasket, cam sensor, timing belt, water pump, rad hoses, coolant sensor and fan switch.

Any ideas?

I have no codes and no engine light. Also I have put it in limp mode and is is a much softer limit. This is a much harsher buck vs. normal limp mode.

The ECU does it no matter how much you want to make it go away as long as you have the issue that triggered the mode?!?

Check to make sure you didn’t miss a sensor. OEM cam sensor? Did you verify timing?

Going to guess you used a non-oem cam sensor. Put an OEM sensor in it

Timing seems to be correct. Sensor is not OEM. Would that be enough to do that? The old sensor was fine I just did the sensor a a precaution while I had it apart. I could put the old one back in?

I purposely pulled the VTec pressure switch and spool valve plugs apart. It set codes and drove it. It was more like a rev limiter where as normally it is much more harsh

honda engines dislike aftermarket sensors, many solved issues after getting OEM

Do all aftermarket valves and other parts cause problems...I replaced a VTEC valve and getting a check engine light now?
