Hello, I just got done replacing both the serpentine and power steering belt on my 2005 Civic VP, and added enough tension such that I am not able to easily bend the belt. However, I still seem to get a squealing noise from the belts (the tell-tale squealing of.a bad belt) and wondering if this is a symptom of either too much or too little tension.
In addition, I have a whining noise that is coming from the engine that I think is also belt related, but is intermittent. It seems to begin after the car is driven for a while (when it heats up) and gets louder when I turn the wheel. It does not increase/decrease with acceleration or deceleration so I think this could also be related to the power steering belt?
Service manual specifies belt deflection. For the alternation/compressor belt apply 22 lbs of force at point A, then measure the deflection. Should be 6.5-8.5 mm for a new belt, 8.5-11 mm for a used belt.
For the power steering belt apply 22 lbs of force at the midpoint of the belt then measure deflection. Should be 9-11 mm for a new belt, 13-16.5 mm for a used belt.
