94 Civic Ex no crank no start (Intermitten Power Loss)
94 Civic Ex no crank no start (Intermitten Power Loss)
I’m having a no crank no start issue with my Honda Civic Ex that I cant figure out how to fix. The last time I drove my car was in December and it was running fine. Around that time I had replaced my spark plugs, distributor, cap & rotor, ignition coil, starter, water pump, alternator and spark plug wires because I was having no start issues. Turns out my starter cut relay had failed on me, and, in desperation, I used a paper clip to bypass it while I waited for the part. One morning when I went to work I smelled like a burning plastic smell and was afraid that I might’ve fried some wiring but the car didn’t respond to it.
One cold afternoon I go to get some gas and it just didn’t start back up. Someone managed to give me a jump to get home and immediately as I got home I took the battery to Oreilys to get it tested and recharged and It tested fine. I tested it myself and the battery reads 12.9V. The next day I tried to start it and it didn’t start. My buddy tried to give me a jump but even after half an hour of charging and revving we could only get the car to crank for 2 seconds.
I’m not an experienced mechanic so I relied on my research and checked my Main Relay and the soders are good and it clicks when my car decides to have power; also checked my fuses underneath the dashboard and in the engine bay. I checked, cleaned, and tightened the grounds in my car. Cleaned the battery terminals. Checked if I had power to my starter from the battery which I did have 12V.
All the symptoms my car was experiencing, in my opinion, was pointing me to the Ignition Switch. Well, I changed the Ignition Switch today and tried to start it; When I inserted the key, I immediately heard the open door jingle so, I was getting power but as soon as I went to ACC (I) the dash didn’t turn on and when I went to start it nothing happened.
I’m frustrated that I can’t figure this out. Has anyone experienced this or is experiencing this right now? I have also tried bypassing the clutch interlock switch and taped a coin where the plastic piece would be for the clutch safety switch and it still didn’t start.
