2013 Civic LX hesitation issues

Hey all need some advice. I recently purchased a 2013 Civic LX automatic with 66,000 miles on it. I noticed the first week some hesitation when releasing the gas and or at low speeds and braking. It is not consistent. I am seeing on forums this isn't an isolated problem but others have the same issue. It is more prevalent in Ecomode.Brought it back to the dealer and they couldn't replicate the problem. It was not a Honda dealer. It seems like the car is thirsty or something like that. I'm not sure if I need to return it or is it just a small repair or troubleshooting I need to address. I don't have the service history but I know it was a lease then sold after 5 years or traded in and second owner had it almost 3 years. I just hope this isn't a high $$$ fix.

With all the crazy stuff happening right now it would be nice to fix myself. Plus the dealer is shut down and I don't think I have the option to return it. IDK.

Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same problem with a 2014 Civic that I just bought a week ago. It also has 67,000 miles and when you let your foot off of the throttle at low speeds like in a parking lot and ease the pedal down , it won't go past idle until you lift the pedal and ease it back down . then it works normal. This never happens on open highway . I will be listening for more advice . I will check for codes in the morning.

It’s odd. Had the transmission fluid done on mine, it was needed so I’m told. Still no codes or issues from my mechanic. He says it drives fine. Fly by wire may take getting used to. You may want to change your trans fluid as well if your not sure of the history. I’d like some more in depth solutions as well. Hopefully this thread gets busy. Be sure to post any codes you may have please. Good luck.

The 13 has an automatic transmission
The 14 has a CVT transmission
They are completely different units, and their noticeable behaviors or quirks are different

True 14’ Civic went CVT.
Still I’m going from a 2003 golf gti 1.8t.
Maybe it’s just in my head. Be nice to know why I feel these quirks though.

Re: 2013 Civic LX hesitation issues

This morning I tried to get Advance and Auto Zone to check for codes but was told that they were not permitted to enter the car because of the virus but the guy at Advance seemed very familiar with the problem and said that he suspected the throttle by wire in the pedal itself . He said there is a resistor in the pedal that goes bad and you replace the pedal as an assembly ( resister included ) Bolt the new pedal down to the floor and plug the wiring harness in. This makes sense because it has a dead spot in the pedal travel .

Hmmm, I’ll ask my guy about it. Makes sense but on a car with 67,000 on it seems odd to wear out or go bad. Thanks for the info.

I just got off of the phone with the Honda dealer . The car is still under the used car warranty so he said they will clean the throttle body and sensors . If that don't fix it , they will look at the accelerator . If previous owner was running low quality fuel , could be the problem . I like to add a fuel injection cleaner to the tank every so often to prevent this problem . 67,000 could be enough to cause it if it was never cleaned . Will see what happens and let you know .

Great. My mechanic also told me if the sensor was acting up is would pull a code. Any air passing Into the throttle body after the sensor would trip a code he said. I may do the fuel injection cleaner or throttle body clean as well. I’m curious about the accelerator and glad someone else is experiencing this issue. Hopefully a simple cheap fix.

Re: 2013 Civic LX hesitation issues

I had same issues on 2015 civic, it was due to a crack in the rubber intake boot. Unable to see crack until the boot was squeezed, which was affecting air/fuel ratio. No more hesitation, car runs really smooth and quiet

My hesitation when pressing gas was due to a crack in this part, intake boot.
