Another P1457

Hi, I've got a 2005 civic with 180k miles.. The p1457 code showed up. I had read it's related to the canister. I chedked the vent valve solenoid which seems a likely culprit, but it tested fine , actuates and holds vacuum. I also checked a solenoid right next to the drivers side end of the canister. The solenoid actuates, but I'm not sure it's working right. When not actuated, I can blow through the hoses. it is easoer to blow through when actuated, but I don't know a good test for this valve. I think it's just underneath the fuel tank pressure sensor. Any ideas? What are complete steps for diagnosing p1457?

Re: Another P1457

I don't have a scanner that can command it shut, but when I put a 9v battery on it, it held vacuum.

Re: Another P1457

I'm thinking that other valve doesn't matter as it's between two closed points anyway, the tank cap and the canister when the vent valve is shut. I'll probably test the purge valve, and if that is tight, i'll have to do a smoke and mirrors test.

Re: Another P1457

Pretty good chance you will need to replace the By-pass (Canister) Shut Valve (CVS) and Canister for the P1457 code. Fairly common with these cars.

Re: Another P1457

Thanks NDNV. Do you have a picture or part# for that bypass shut valve?. I did a pressure test at the back end, and the canister, tank, filler hose all seemed to hold pressure. I also checked and tested the purge valve, and that was fine. I guess now I need to confirm that the vent valve is getting closed by the computer.
