Head Gasket Replacement day DIY Ohhh My!
Head Gasket Replacement day DIY Ohhh My!
2003 civic ex coup srs
Head Gasket Replacement Why?
Tiny Bubbles in radiator.
No heat/low heat in the winter.
Water filling the Overflow.
Always adding coolant.
Temp gauge up up and away!
Starting problems.
Misfire problems.
#2 Plug cracked porcelain or clogged with burnt antifreeze.
+++++
Battery, Ps, Alt, Anti lock, Motor mount, left wheel -all off.
Jack with a Piece of wood is holding the engine up.

Q: Does the fuel rail have to come off the intake? Injectors as well?
Thanks!

Head went to the machine shop today, $450 for the rebuild :"'(
Can I use carb cleaner for the Plastic intake & FI base? Brake cleaner a NO?
Does the EGR valve cause all that gunk in the intake?

ouch, $450 to rebuild? I would have just disassembled the head and paid them to deck it/condition valve guides, then reassembled yourself. That is, unless, you have no way of acquiring the "around the head" style valve spring compression tool. That, alone, cost me $100 to buy, and it took me 3 hours of driving around Vegas to find one.

I had the injectors cleaned & rebuilt. they went from 65ml to 75ml. the rubbers were dry anyways -so instead of just buying seals, I got free seals with the rebuild. I hope that was worth $12 ea!
maybe gas millage will improve too?

It was a guesstimate. I assumed worst case scenario. It was a long *** time ago that I bought that tool. It was probably a lot closer to your figure, but I figured that posting a higher number was better than lowballing it, only to have a member say, "damn it, you said it was cheaper!"

I dont mind paying for the work to be done professionally, In my case, they did the valves right, but they used a belt sander on the head and painted the head. they painted over the rust & dirt too! Cleaning was not their specialty! Watch out Brooklyn! Bad Machine Shop! Bad Machine Shop!
I took the head elsewhere to get the proper smooth surface. Thats another $100!
Oh well! Its Good Now!
