2002 Civic EX - replace headlight lenses?
2002 Civic EX - replace headlight lenses?
How expensive and hard might it be for a novice, to replace headlight lenses on this car? Not sure if I can do it myself.
The lenses are fogged and polish doesn't work for long.

most aftermarket headlights have light output much lower than stock. recommend keeping them and finding a good headlight cleaner/polish - too many to even know which works.

Protip: sand and polish off the yellow oxidation, tape it off, spray on some uv-protective clear coat. That's what I've done for my friends and relatives, and they look basically new when I'm done.
New headlights: at a minimum $100
If you sand then down and clearcoat: maybe $15 if you buy the assorted pack of sandpaper (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 grit pack) and a $4 spray can of clear coat at Walmart

I did 2 cars using the 3M headlight kit. I think this is the kit I used:

It really works! All you need is a drill, some masking tape, and a very small amount of DIY common sense.
Do give yourself enough time if you decide to take on this project. There's no substitute for that. It took me about 2 hours per car.

Thanks. I just looked at the bottle I have, and it's Blue Magic Headlight Lens Restorer. Looked at the instructions ( RTFM ). I was doing it wrong, using wet cloths. They say to use it with dry cloth. Need to try that.

As an update, I found a pair of complete new headlights on ebay for $59.83 w/FREE shipping. Those and a pair of new wiper blades from Sam's Club for $20 made a world of difference. note- the drivers side was so bad that a pint of water leaked out of it.

Got OEM ones installed a few minutes ago lol. Boght from a supplier in Finland for 180 Euro for the pair, it is identical to the OEM as far as I saw. I am a novice and followed youtube videos on how to open the bumper half way and get those things out. The only issue that took damn near 30 mins and I struggled was reinserting the headlight adjuster bit. Whole thing took 2 hour.

I'm doing ok now, by polishing them a few times.

But the polish is working nicely, with a moderately wet cloth, and then buffing with another damp one, and wiping it off.

$60 US Dollars is 54 Euros. Of course overseas shipping enters the equation. Hope that helps. Of note- I sold some parts to a guy in Finland once and it was $60 US.
