Weird moisture related idle issue
94 DX hatchback, auto, 149K mi
Started a few weeks ago. Started the car, check engine light was on, idle was a little rough. Turned off car and started it again. Ran perfectly, no CEL.
Next day, same thing. Filled the tank with gas (was very low, CEL didn't happen again) (I don't remember what the weather was like at that time)
2 days ago, I washed the car, then started it to drive around the block to remove some water. CEL came on and idle was a little rough. Came back to the house and figured I would check for codes once I finished drying it (hard water in Vegas) Started the car when done, ran fine, no CEL.
Last night it rained about an hour before I left for work. Car in garage, started fine. No standing water anywhere so didn't drive through water. Maybe some mist. It rained about a half hour before I left work this morning. Car under carport. Turn the key, CEL comes on after fuel pump prime. Doesn't want to start easily, Turn key off and on several times. CEL comes on each time. Try starting again, still doesn't want to start easily. Turn key on and off a few more times, CEL comes on each time. Try to start again, starts but slightly rough idle, almost like it's idling around 5-600 RPM. Get out to check for codes. Don't see any lights on computer. Pop hood, and pull each plug wire, car stumbles each time. Shut car off and restart, runs fine, no CEL.
Pattern is that it will restart and run perfectly fine after it runs for a few seconds with CEL on. Virtually every part (fuel/spark) has been replaced in the last couple of years (10K miles) IACV was replaced with a used part a couple years ago.
Any thought on which sensor may be affected by the moisture in the air and causing this issue??
Would O2 sensors cause this?
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Weird moisture related idle issue
Getting 6 short flashes. Looks like the Coolant Temperature Sensor.
If I remember correctly, that is located under the distributor.
It is a part I replaced but it may have gone bad.
I pulled it out, cleaned it and the plug. Will see if that helps.
Car barely wanted to start this morning and once it did, would bog down when I gave it gas. Was dry out last night and windy.
As soon as I turned the key all of the way off and back on, the CEL went out and it ran fine.
Will see if it's any better tomorrow.

Re: Weird moisture related idle issue
Just a follow up on this. I pulled the coolant temp sensor, wiped it off and cleaned the connector with electronics cleaner.
I haven't had the issue reoccur since, but we have had very little rain.
Will update if it happens again, but for now, it seems to be behaving.
