Newbie with a 3rd generation sedan Could you help
Hi
I'm the proud new owner of a wonderful 1984 Honda Civic Sedan
It was first sold, brand new, right here in Santa Barbara at Hughes Automotive.
The original owner took excellent care of the vehicle with all records to prove it. It has 120,000 miles and I bought it from the original owner. Suffice it to say, I'm pretty stoked. Oh, and the interior looks perfect.
I'd like to know how hard it is to add cruise control and also power steering.
Also, any recommendations on great sites for info on this model would be helpful as I haven't found much.
Proud to be the owner of a 3rd generation Honda that has been so well cared for.

That car is itty-bitty and light. You don't need power steering, you need to work out!
Cruise kits are available through the aftermarket.

It appears that car didn't come with power steering. To reengineer the whole thing to accept power steering from something else might be a huge undertaking.

translating ezone:
car is very light, it could well do without the power steering. If you want to really, there are some aftermarket that *might* be possible to be installed.

I really don't see anything wrong with what he said...

My first Civic was a brand new 1985 4 door Sedan. White with blue interior. Great car. Had the 4 valve system (one of the valves was about size of you finger and had a pre combustion chamber so car did not need a cat. In the winter you had to push accelerator 3-5 time to prime. (was in the manual) Put a timing belt in every 60K. (lot of work) Loaned it to my son on his prom night. (had 100K on it) Next day, the cam shaft broke into on the wife right where the large pulley bolted on. It indexed and bent the valves. I fixed that myself (lots of work..HA) Cylinder still looked new with not even a ridge at 100K. (and that bad boy turned 4000rpm at 70 mph) Only other problem was I put generic transmission fluid in it and after awhile in it, it would not shift. After switching back to Honda, it was OK. Great car. About the power steering. Learn to just start moving ever so slow before you move the steering wheel. Once you get your rhythm in, you will never know it needs power steering. I cringe even when I see people spoiled with power steering tearing up their steering joins sitting still and turning their wheel. Lot of stupid people out there who can't move their foot and hands and think at the same time. Especially the ones with the smart phones stuck to their butts. Enjoy your car. You got a good one.

Car guy workout program:
Requires large, heavy car equipped with non-power assist steering and non-power assist brakes (preferably American Musclecar with V8 and manual transmission).
When you come to a stop light:
First solidly step on the brake, then move the steering wheel fully to the left lock, then fully to the right lock, then return to center.
Repeat at the next stop light, and every stop light thereafter.
