Honda civic dx 2001 misfire multiple cyliders

Hi,
I've had this honda civic 2001 for the past 4 years and since last year(2012) it's been giving me some hard time during cold winter time. When it's cold, it runs very rough/high idle and if I try to drive right after I start the car, it will turn off. It needs few minutes to warm up before I can drive. I do get the engine light on and it says missfire multiple cylinders. I did change the spark plugs and ignition coils. I was thinking if it is cracked head or headgasket, but I do NOT have any symptoms like coolant missing, oil mixed with coolant or white smoke comming of the exhaust, etc, . If the weather is warm/hot car runs just fine but the engine light it's still on, but at leat the car run smooth. Before I take it to a mechanic I thought I would write in this forum and see if anybody has any sugestion. You help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Azem

This is an old thread but check your coil packs, spark plugs, fuel injectors, EGR ,EGE Valve passage that bolted on the intake manifold,if its clogged it will gives misfiring codes and the other thing to check as well is your camshaft sensor.

Re: Honda civic dx 2001 misfire multiple cyliders

I feel I just have to come back and payback on this one. The code that reads: misfire on all cylinders just about drove me crazy. Sometimes the car would run smoothly for a short time, but then would run very rough. When I disconnected the coils one by one they all tested out, and so I moved on to many other tests and replacements. I finally decided to buy one new coil and swapped it out cylinder by cylinder. That did it. I always thought a coil would be good or bad and not work partially on an intermittent basis. Lesson learned for me.

ok bro, guess what.i had this issue before but my car wasn't running that bat but misfire on multiple cylinders were the culprit. This is what i did. I adjusted all the valve from cylinder 1-4 and problem solved so try that before you buy any part put on the car.i changed
spark plugs
Coil packs
Fuel pump
filter injectors spend over a $100 at the dealership to buy plugs and all those didn't do nothing but adjusted the valve solved all misfire so do that and let me know..let me check the correct measurement for intake and exhaust valve and get back to u in a few minutes.
ok here is the measurement for intake and exhaust value
INTAKE: 0.007-0.009. EXHAUST 0.009-0.011.
Now this is a very time sensitive job and patients included. Go on your and look up how to do the adjustments. Try to pay special and to the video.if you dont understand, watch it again or look at a different video to get the understanding if that one not getting you anywhere..you need to take off the valve cover and then the black cover at the side that cover the cam pulley to see the timing marks on the cam pulley.there are 3 marks on the cam pulley. An up mark that should be in the up position and two other marks on either side of the pulley after you set the up mark.tje mark at the side should be extremely level with the top of the cylinder head at both sides and in order to set the marks you need to turn the crankshaft pulley counter clockwise until they are lined up correctly. After thats is set, start with the intake valve first and those are on the back of the head because thats where intake manifold at, first you will need a flat head screw driver and a 10mm wrench with the feeler gauge of the measurement i provided earlier. 0.007-0.009 intake and 0.009-0.0011 exhaust but you should be ok with 0.007 intake and 0.009. When adjusting them, the feeler gauge should be tight when you pulling it out,it should just have little drag while pulling out. Remember to start at cylinder 1 on the intake side first and then to the exhaust then move to cylinder number 3 then 4 and cylinder 2 last. But watch the video on YouTube to get what I'm talking about first or if you have a friend let him help. Its not hard just pay attention and you will be good.

so read those and you should be set.

those are what call feeler gauge. Those are not the right measurement but thats tool you will need to do the work. Just ask Oreiley or the other parts store.

this is a dirty EGR passage. If yours looking like that you need to clean it and your EGR valve..
