Door lock question?

My friend and I both have the same Civic, and he was wanting to put a keyless entry on it. The only thing is, the locking mechanism is weird (to me at least). To lock both doors from the inside, you have to pull the door handle like you're opening the door, then hit the lock button.

I'm not sure what kind of locking mechanism this is. My guess is that's it's to prevent locking your keys in your car. Would this be considered an automatic lock and just go straight ahead and put in the keyless entry? Or would we have to switch to automatic locks first?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Door lock question?

It's a Honda.
They have done this for decades.
Only on the drivers door.
It's explained in the owners manual.
It's normal, you can't change it.

Just install the keyless and know ahead of time the doors must be closed for it to work.

Yes, they have gotten away from it recently.

....So you can't lock the keys in the car.......
Mom used to have an 86 Accord...I borrowed it to go on an trip. Somewhere in northern Indiana I stopped for gas....40 degrees, raining.....I managed to get out and lock the door with the engine running. NO coat on.

Had to scrounge for a coathanger to get in. A trucker had one.

Still don't want to admit I did it.
