Suspension knocking noise passenger side
Suspension knocking noise passenger side
Hi,
I just took out my transmission to replace a bearing which was hard work which meant taking out drive shafts, so I had to remove lower ball joints. I ended up removing the lower control arm on the passenger side because the ball joint wouldn't pop.
When I was putting it back in, it was difficult to get the LCA back into the subframe so I used a rubber mallet. Is this the usual method? Now everything is back together, I can hear a knock noise on that side when I drive over small bumps or begin to go up a hill. It is only a single knock, sounds like someone knocking the side of my car. I don't know what's causing it, I've never heard it before. Any ideas?
EDIT:
I googled it and people have had similar problems and they say its caused by drop link on the LCA and anti roll bar. That drop link was actually annoying, I didn't have the right size allen key so I couldn't remove it, the nut just turned with the joint. So I couldn't tighten it and I just left it as it is, could that be the problem?

A single pop for each time the suspension is stressed one direction or another very well could be hardware that didn't get tightened enough.
Torqued to specs on every last thing you touched?
And yes, if you got the nut to turn on the swaybar link but couldn't get it tight again, that could be it. Forget using the Allen key hole, that ONLY worked when it was brand-stinkin'-new. Once you twist the Allen wrench and strip the hole, it just expanded and you won't get the nut off without more damage. You will replace it anyway.
Use an impact gun and vice grips to tighten it or just cut the damned thing off and replace it.
Once in a while I can slice the nut with a cutoff wheel and reuse the link.
