Abs issues

Hi new member here...

My abs light in my honda civic 2003 won't come on at anytime, now the question is;

Do the abs unit on these go faulty? (honda reliability??)

I thought if it was faulty it would stay on?

What is the likely issue?

Re: Abs issues

the abs light should only come on for a couple seconds when you first turn the car on. if it stays on, there is a problem. if it stays off, everything is working normally. abs failures are pretty rare. the actual abs modulator only starts to pulse the brake pedal on slippery surfaces. i've only had abs engage when driving on snow.

Re: Abs issues

it could be a loose wire for the warning light on the cluster. have you been in a situation where you can test to see if the abs actually works? like slam the brakes in a snowy parking lot and see if the pedal starts to vibrate when you hold it down? i kinda doubt its a fuse, because then the abs light would be on all the time. overall i would not worry too much, abs almost useless on these cars and having it "break" will not really affect anything. the brakes still work and all.

Thanks for that, I know its not really that important but I heard that it would fail the MOT if not sorted!!!! Is that true?

Re: Abs issues

what is MOT, like a smog or inspection? the abs is unrelated to the engine, so emissions are not affected. it possibly might fail a visual safety inspection, but only if the abs light was remaining on. otherwise there is no way for them to tell.
