brakes question
if you upgrade to big brakes in the front and you have ABS, will the ABS still work with the new pistons and rotors? also, will ABS work at all with a drum to disc conversion in the rear? i ask because i want to do the brake conversion on my EX, but if it kills the ABS it's not gonna happen for me.

Iwould think it shouldn't be a problem, the sensor for ABS only senses if the wheels lock up, it shouldn't matter about the size.
I have always said that the 2 most important things on a car are the tires and brakes, make sure you have someone qualified to install the brakes, the last thing you want is a brake failure.

I couldn't agree more... My first car (it was used) After I signed the pink slips I went straight to Sears and got me new tires... Then I got me new brakes.. Hey the tires is the only part of the car keeping you in touch with the ground...
Well it should not matter because you dont need special calipers for ABS because ABS consists of wheel sesnors a special master cylinder and a computer that controls the brakes but thats about it as far as the rear not working that is quesionable because you would have to get the wheel sensors installed some way on it other wise you wont have ABS in the rear. But I would definetly ask AEM how that works with the wheel sensors
If you do the big brake upgrade in the front, ABS will still work. However, there is no ABS to the rear drums. Also, there is no conversion kit out for the rear drum to disc for the 7th gen vics yet. Hope that helps ya.
i say screw abs, as long as your brakes work, who cares? i hate abs brakes, they suck in the winter, sure you don't go off to the side, but you don't stop either!! stupid things have almost cost me my car more than once, i went no abs for a few years before and never had any problems, i just did a lil pumpin when i was neccessary, ahhh anyway just thought i'd put in a post...peace
Tummyboy, the AEM Rear Disc conversion kit is out for the 6th gen vics, and I think another gen, but not ours yet, you can check the AEM site, click on Big Rotor Brake kits, and then see the applications, none is out for the 7th gen vic, you may be confusing it with the Four Piston caliper kit, which is still only for the front upgrade.
