1995 civic ex sedan (need help))

i just got my civic with 170k miles on it
everything is stock!!
whats the first step to working on it? i dont want a ricer so ima focus on whats under the hood first rather then the look !! help!!
i need to know what i should check out on it or what i should fix on it!!!

Do you have an maintenance records?

Basics first: Oil change, air and fuel filter changes, change plugs and wires, coolant flush (if it needs it), check the ATF if it's an auto (if you don't know when the ATF was changed last then don't touch it if it looks/smells bad), replace belts if they are worn.

Advanced: check engine mounts, check valve clearances, replace timing belt/tensioner and waterpump, check wheel bearings, check steering (tie-rods), check the whole suspension (push one end of the car down and it should go down, come up, then settle- no more. or if it pops/rattles).
