Has anyone changed or had a inner tie rod changed?
Has anyone changed or had a inner tie rod changed?
Ok so I have a bad drivers side inner tie rod. Has anyone changed one themselves? I was told on another forum that in order to do it I have to take out the stock intake system and use some crazy tools for what should be a easy job. Can you change it from under the car? If not then how long has it taken to have done by a shop? I have an 8 hour drive coming up. It's not to bad right now just slight movement in the tire and an occasional pop when turning at low speeds. No shaking or noise at speeds above 20mph.(no shaking at any time actually) I have limited funds right now due to lack of work and hope its not a steep bill.

I'm hoping lazlong can look this up in the service manual, because I'd like to know the exact procedure.
I know you need the special tool, but otherwise it doesn't seem to hard to diy even without removing the intake.

I looked it up on youtube but nothing specific to the 01-05 civic. It says with rack and pinion setup you need the tool but I was told that the tool won't work on our car because the tool isn't long enough. I just find it hard to believe that the only way to get it off is to take out the whole intake system.

I can see how removing the intake would make it less difficult for an inexperienced DIY'er, but since you've done some pretty major suspension work before you should be able to do it from underneath the car (i saw your other thread). My basic understanding of the procedure is that you just loosen the locking nuts like on the outer tie rods and it will unscrew, i think those nuts should be accessable from underneath.
Check this thread out, no mention of removing the intake in it, https://www.civicforums.com/forums/4...r-tie-rod.html
