Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
I have a 2005 Honda Civic still all stock but am wanting to lower my car and get some ideas of what else is worth doing to it. I don't know much about the whole lowering of a car and all the stuff that goes with it, so I'm all ears for suggestions! Please help! Thank you!

Well what I did was got Raceland Coilovers front and rear then got camber kits for the rear(control arms) and front control arms both kits from KSports. If you check out my pics its nice, i think lol, n also never had problems.

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
No offense, but I'd steer away from Raceland coilovers...
They're inexpensive for a reason... they're not safe.
I also have an 05 and here is what I have done:
-AEM short ram air intake
-Full 2.5" catback exhaust
-17" rims
-Acura RSX-S rear sway bar (Excellent upgrade and very very easy!)
-TEIN Street Basis coilvoers.
I have a review for the coilovers if you're interested:

All of these listed are great upgrades for starters. I know because I'm very new to upgrades too

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
Awesome thanks for the tips...
- are coilovers the only thing you can use for 2005 Civic? what about lowering springs? I have seen a few do that also.
- Cool air intake(helps gas mileage?)
-Do you buy all these things online and bring them somewhere to get put on?
Thank you for your input!!

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
You can also do lowering springs in combination with custom shocks. Some good spring brands are Eibach, TEIN, Neuspeed. Most people on the forum will recommend Tockico Blue shocks to handle the added stress from a drop.
Coilovers just happen to be more practical all around and you can adjust them to whatever height best suits you.
An air intake can possibly increase MPG, but not by much. They're just nice to have because the sound and look really cool
I came into this car culture having never worked on a car before, but after about 6 months, I'm happy to say that the only thing I haven't installed myself, is my crappy foglight kit that had wiring issues.
You'll learn a lot, and you'll learn fast as long as you stick with us on the forum.

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
before we throw a bunch of brand names out there, let's find out what you want.
How low do you wanna go? A nice subtle drop? More than subtle, but not enough to make you swear off speed bumps forever? or do you wanna have your car scrape any sizable rock you may encounter? Or, do you wanna have the option to adjust the height?
Do you want a stock like feel? Stiff so you feel everything in the road? Or do you want to have the option to adjust that, as well?
Lastly.. budget. How much are you willing to spend on a suspension setup? I will warn you, though, a proper setup can run you in excess of $700, and that's lowballing it.

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
I would like to drop it enough to fill the gaps between tires and body especially the rear. Obviously the less money I have to spend the best but it's a work in progress. The feel I would like to keep a little of stock but also some road.

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
Before you drop though, consider your tire size. Don't be an idiot like me and buy tires that are too big and expect them not to rub
Stay with tires equal or less than 215 contact width. Go for rims that are 7 wide and make sure your tire's height is low profile in comparison to the wheel. I believe 17" wheels fit well with 40-45s, 16" with 45-50s, etc. If you really want to avoid issues, stay with the stock wheels and tires.
If you drop more than 1.5", you'll probably want a rear camber kit too. All it does is straighten out the rear wheel so it doesn't sit at a severe angle when lowered. Some good camber kits are made by Megan Racing, Wicked Tuning, SPC and Ingalls

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
about the spring setup vs coilovers bit.. Not necessarily. I achieved pretty much what OP wants with Tein S-Techs on Tokico blues. Had 17's with 215/45 tires to accompany the drop.

Setup ran me just about $700.. $800 if you wanna count the alignment, and about $950 if you want to include the camber kit I installed along with it.

Ingalls Camber Kit - $20 lightly used
Alignment - $120

Re: Honda Civic 2005 help :-)
Then again, that's not the setup I'm running right now.. Shortly after that picture, I came across a deal on the forum to get Tein SS-P coilovers for $1250 shipped from SoCal to upstate NY.
But, to keep from going off topic, if OP is interested in the same setup I had when I took that picture, Dezod.com is a good place to go. Shipping prices kinda suck, but they are an authorized dealer with amazing customer service. Their site started out offering either universal parts or 7thgen specific parts, even fabbing up their own turbo kit before moving onto different platforms. You can get a small discount using coupon code "7thgenhonda"
