Can someone tell me the specifics on the threaded portion of our OEM shifter? I want to cut mine down but want to use the OEM Civic or RSX **** which would require maintaining the threads. I am assuming that I would need the thread pitch, depth, diameter of the shifter shaft at the threaded portion, etc.
If someone has cut threads on steel stock before, you'd probably know what to do. I'd do the calculations but I don't have any precision measuring tools.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Upon completing this modification, I will post the specific's regarding the correct tool to use and my opinion of the resulting performance difference.
Thank you very much,
TJ

The sucky thing is that the threaded portion of the shifter shaft is a smaller diameter than the rest if the shifter shaft. If you cut the shifter shaft below the threaded portion, then how will you make the upper part of the shifter shaft a smaller diameter again? You'de have to actually take apart the shifter and mount it on a lathe to reduce the diameter at the tip. Although taking apart the shifter is impossible since it's a plastic ball that's sort of molded into the plastic.
there is someone on the site that just cut out a section of it and had it welded back together one the boot is installed it just looks like a short shifter and cost you all of 10 bucks to get it welded

the threaded section is 8mm..the shaft is 12mm.. welding it bad can work but the shifter is made from cheap generic metal alloy (aka white metal) and won't be too strong after being welded.....you can do it..but there's a bit of a chance you breaking your shift rod if you shift hard in the cold or something.. not a risk you wanna take really..
