7440 turn signal bulb on a 02 coupe EX

hi, i am trying to fit a 7440 amber bulb on a clean lens front turn signal connector.
I was expecting it to be a direct fit and tried to push it in, but it stopped midway. A closer inspection against the original 7443 shows that the locks are in different positions in the 7440, which i am assuming is the cause for not pushing all the way in.
Is there a different connector that works with 7440 that could fit my headlight assembly that somebody knows of?
I could always grind the locks off, or the connectors itself, but sort of short in time to mechanical inspection here in Canada (car is originally US).
Naturally i could try to fit another amber bulb but i will need to open the headlight housing to make the bulb pass thru the hole... ( the other type of bulbs are larger diameter, but fit the connector... Aaaah! where is the interconnectivity?!? cars are expensive because everyone wants to design a different "universal" part!).
Not really looking for opening the headlight housing - this are the Amsa USA projector set, so since they are not leaking or accumulating moisture for 2 years, would not like to try my luck...
sorry for long post, but thought more info could help pinpoint solutions.

thanks
sandro

grinding the tabs on the bulb with a dremel is easiest if they are all glass. otherwise check ebay for seller "autopartshouse" he has 7443 and 7440 natural amber bulbs with a plastic base and ive tried both at one time. they fit perfectly in the stock connector.

glass is harder than metal... 2nd lime now... and will need to de-greaser afterwards... Wah!
Worth the work, though...

yeah take it slow, you dont want the glass cracking from heat buildup.

yes.
but there's still the spare one...
good news? they are real colored glass, since same color after griding. not surface coating.
