Dim Brake Warning light

My 2000 CX has a dim brake warning light. If I unplug the leed going to the master cylinder the light goes away; however, the warning light is much dimmer than say if you use the hand brake. Car stops just fine just wondering what might cause this. Many thanks.

Re: Dim Brake Warning light

If you have a DMM handy... Ohm out the switch contacts with the connector un-hooked and see if it reads open or actually has some resistance shown.

Re: Dim Brake Warning light

Make sure your brake fluid level in the master cylinder is correct. If it's low the brake light will come on. If you find that you need to fill it, then check it again in a few days to make sure you don't have a leak somewhere.

Re: Dim Brake Warning light

either youre low on brake fluid (could be caused from worn out brake pads), or your parking brake cable is messed. or you have a problem with the fluid sensor in the master cylinder reservoir.

Re: Dim Brake Warning light

Many thanks I think its the fluid sensor. After a week of checking no leaks and the pads seem ok not great but there is pad left. Wanted to ohm out the connections but my VOM went awol. Thanks for the helpful hints. Ps my cars a beater but I'm starting to understand the appeal of these 3 doors, very fun to drive even with an auto!
