Weird auto trans behavior? or normal?
I don't know what I could have put in to search for for this...
I have a 03 EX coupe with almost 66K (had the car since 50K just about 10 months). Everything works normal, except when I am braking moderately from about 50-55mph, the auto trans seems to what feels like a downshift from 4 or 3 down to 2. The same buck that happens when you downshift normally.
It happens almost every time while going down a hill, usually a fairly steep one. I don't brake hard, I use normal stopping power as I would on flat road too.
It has happened less frequently while on a flat road or highway.
I'm pretty sure it didn't do this when I got it.
It has been in an accident where the front left wheel, axle, and suspension were damaged, so they were recently replaced. Not sure if that would have anything to do with that.
Is this normal? It does feel like it helps stop me better, like it would normally with a manual transmission, or shifting with the automatic shifter. I never downshift while slowing down anyway, but that's what it does.
Ideas?
I have not done a transmission fluid change/service, and I guess I should do that ASAP as I've read I should be doing that every 10K.

Re: Weird auto trans behavior? or normal?
heh its actually a feature of the newer trans called 'grade logic' control. it downshifts to a lower gear when you are braking down a hill. its super annoying and i wish there was a way to disable it. it also affects uphill driving. if you are pressing the gas and keeping constant speed, then you start to climb a hill, the trans will downshift to progressively lower gears even tho you do not step harder on the gas. worst feature ive ever heard of.

ok haha I thought I was going crazy.
Sometimes I just downshift to D3 while going up a hill, I almost always give it a little more gas while going up a hill.

I got an 08 EX automatic transmission and I have the same downshift situation in it here in Tampa(flat land). It occurs when I am slowing down and I can actually feel it as it ships into a lower gear. It's like I have manually downshifted. Glad to hear this is "normal".
