Rev problem?

I got a 01 LX Coupe without any mods under the hood (except K&N filter) and got into a minor fender bender today , but luckily, no visual damage on my end (and it wasn't my fault - lady made an illegal U-turn infront of me)

Anyway, I just noticed that when I start to stop the car from motion, RPM doesn't drop to minimum (about 800 on mine) smoothly, but jumps down to idle (about 800 from 1200) right before the car is at/or almost complete stop.

That doesn't feel right... I mean, it should come down to idle smoothly and not wait until the car comes to complete stop. I don't know if that's cause by accident - maybe something got knocked off?! I think I do need tune up... any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Rev problem?

mine does this sometimes, it can be due to brake servo as when pushing the brakes the servo pumps up the revs.

As for it happening due to your crash i cant imagine it'll have any affect.

Re: Rev problem?

what kind of "fender bender?" where was it on the vehicke? is this an automatic? if it is, there might be an issue with your torque converter. it sounds like your lock-up clutch is sticking on, then slipping off as you come to a "no load" situation....

Re: Rev problem?

I just hit my front bumper - no visual damage I can see... but it seems to go away as I drive more and less drastic. (BTW, it's a recently rebuilt manual tranny)

Re: Rev problem?

Mine does that only after when I've disconnected the battery (even after idle relearn), but it returns to normal after a couple of days.

Re: Rev problem?

I got a used one from a local trany mechanic for about $1200 and they reassemble the whole thing again - with 6 months warranty... yeah, stuff like that, going to Honda will rip you a new one.

I think the rev is back to normal... have no idea what was up for a day or two.
