Lower control arm replacement
Lower control arm replacement
So I was just quoted $700 to replace both lower control arms on a 2001 Honda Civic EX. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and said that the LCA's were cracked. I did not see this damage but I suspect it was from the fender bender recently that damaged the motor mounts as well.
A little background. I got help from this forum which I totally appreciated concerning the motor mounts. Well, after my wife rear-ended someone, the motor mounts were damaged and replaced. The vehicle, since then, has had a shaking/wobbling that occurs at all speeds. Fast forward to today...mechanic inspects the car and says that the LCA's are cracked.
So, is this too high a price to pay? Can I get the parts and have my mechanic do it for cheaper? I'm suspecting that this is the case, but I figured I'd ask you all who have experienced this. Thanks!

Re: Lower control arm replacement
For rear contol arms- correct? If so...
You can pick up some blinging aftermarket ones for around 200, which include polyurethan bushings- much better than the rubber OEM bushings.
SPC makes some, Omni Power makes some, Megan makes some, D2 makes some.... just look around for one that looks good (since your not concerned about their different weights, mere grams)

Re: Lower control arm replacement
im pretty sure spc doesnt come with poly bushings. seems like rubber cause mine is starting to tear after a couple years.
Re: Lower control arm replacement
Thanks for the replies. I found the front lower control arms for $110 each. I should be able to get my mechanic to do it fairly in-expensively. $700 seemed way to high as well.

Re: Lower control arm replacement
I dont think so, because I was going to make a DIY when I did it, but it was so simple that I forgot.
Its three nuts to get the center section off where you need the special SPC part to remove them (or the honda one) and then another nut/bolt combo on the outter bolts. Word of advice, when re-installing, do the inner three first, and then the outter bolt otherwise it will be impossible to line up.
