ok, my cousin ('01 civic EX) got into a little accident with his car over this past week.
after the accident, his front seatbelts will not retract into their places (both driver and passanger because he was driving and he had a passanger in the front). i guess its from the initial jolt of the accident and it somehow messed up the seatbelt retractor.
also, his SRS light is lit up on his dash too. he does not have side airbags either.
does anyone know if this is normal for the seatbelts to be like this? is there a simple fix or does he need to replace the whole seatbelt retracting unit?
thanks for any help.

^^^^ I agree. the belts did their job, and you need to replace the restraints. and SRS isnt side airbags, its supplemental restraint system. that would be the airbags, the belt tensioners, etc.... that make sure you stay in the seat.
the seat belts need to be replaced. there is a charge inside of each that makes then tighten up when you are in an accident. you could also try to get honda to cover it . i believe that they have a lifetime warranty on seatbelts
Damn, the whole restraint needs to be replaced after an accident? I would think just a reset. I hit someone at around 30mph and seatbelts did their job, but I ddin't have to do anything to them or have any srs light.

Pre-tensioners are miniature explosive charges that tighten the belt against you and keep you in the seat, as mentioned above. There's no resetting an explosive charge, it needs to be replaced.

wow, you guys have been more than helpful. thanks for the pictures.
i have a question. why does my cousin need to replace the belt buckle itself (pictured above)? is that where the "mini explosive charge" went off?

Thats were 1 of 2 went off. *that tube is one of the explosives* and the other is in the seat belt retractor its self. I dont have a picture to show you, but that was just one i had.
I was in the same boat as ur cousin, but i replaced ONLY the belt ONLY to discover that f-ing buckle also had to be replaced....
Like previously stated, it's just ONE of the TWO explosions per seatbelt....all in the name of "safety".
