tie rod came off while driving

tie rod came off while driving
I just installed lowering spring recently and a shop helped me do it, I guess they forgot to install the bolt or didnt tighten the bolt. I drove over a pot hole and the tie rod came off on one side and I almost had an accident 
cuz I try to turn the steering but the wheel doesnt turn. 
Long story short I took it back to the shop and fxed it but according the the DIY springs install, there supposed to have a pin holding the bolt (see pics below) but I checked there are no pins n not even a hole for the pin....
Anyone of u have the same issue?
Fyi, My car is 2002 EX sedan.

that is really dangerous, your lucky u didnt get into an accident cause as soon as that snaps, your wheels should go completely left or right.. make sure the bushing isnt bad, usually when you install springs you have to take that apart, usually a shop will just half *** it and break that ball joint while removing/installing. Its very easy to break if not done right.

Yeah that is extremely negligent on the part of the shop. Pick up a set of cotter pins from your local hardware store.
Think if you buy #7, the tie rod end, it comes with the boot already on and you just need the nut and cotter pin. You should check with whoever you're buying it from unless you don't mind having extra parts.

thank god U didnt get hurt with that done to your car. All you really need is the tie rod end it comes with everything you need. but I would report it to the poloce have them write up a report then take it back to the shop and have them pay for everything. That is BS on the part of the shop.

they already told me the tie rod came like that without pinhole..... it was my mistake also i didnt check the tie rod at the spot cuz i tot they know wat they r talking about and wouldn't lie to me..... plus i'm new to the tie rod thing, after i searched thru this forum (thanks 7thgencivic!!) I realized they cheated me........

that's a load of bull. any shop that works on suspensions and thinks tie rod ends don't have cotter pins would never again touch my car... they would pay for all repairs, at the hands of someone i trust

You really should file a police report about that. They are doing unsafe business, and endangering with their clients. They really could get someone killed with those practices. At very least file a report with better business bureau. From the very fact that they had to take apart they should have NEVER even thought about putting it back together with out a tie rod end with a functional cotter pin. They can try and bitch at you saying you brought it to them like that, but even if you did they should have at the very least said something. At least threaten to sue regardless of what you knew before you took your car to them they gave it back to you unsafe, which is totally irresponsible.
Edit: I had another great idea that would even be more painless to you and probably put the shop out of bussiness with a terrible image, write in/call one of your local tv stations and tell them about what happened. Get all the facts straight and bring it to them. They would love to harass the shop and have something to put on the next slow news day.

Yeah i will call the shop up today n see if they would pay for the new tie rod end

I'm planning to buy the tie rod ends from internet, do u guys think the Honda dealer will install them for me (currently, I'm lowered on Neuspeed sport springs with lip kits all around)????

Rep Power: 0 took some pics.... I had never have other shop change or remove my suspension/tie rod ends, only things I had other shops done was oil change, obviously this shop must have cut them....

Rep Power: 0 The metal looks fresh as far as I can tell from the fuzzy picture. They can get out of that one. You really should do something about it, demand an explaniation as to what they were even thinking. They should have know the result of cutting the bolt so far in the first place. You definately should not be the one paying for the tie rod, or its install. But, if you havent got the tie rods on already just install them your self, it will be simple. The install is easy the alignment is the tough part, just try to match where it is now and get it aligned once your suspension settles. But dont take this matter lightly the shop screwed you and those pictures show what they did, make sure you at least get your money back for mess.
damn man... you should definately follow through with some legal action. Even if they do come up with the bullshit that it was like that already, a reputable place that knows what their doing should have let you or ATLEAST warned you of what kind of problems you can be getting into with a tie rod end like that.
