i'll draw you a diagram, just need to know if the transformer is built in or seperate, and when do you want them to be on, with a switch, when headlights are on, or anytime car is on.

no, the transformer i'm talking about is the transformer needed to run the neon tubes, the transformer is either built-in (on one end of the tube) or it can be seperate and need to wire it. look at your tubes and at one end if it has a transformer inside. anyways i'm guessing you have neons with a built in, so i'm gonna draw a circuit for you and will post it.

that way, you will only be able to turn them on when car on or in acc position, and you will have a switch to turn it on. and i drew it for a illuminated switch, if you just have a regular switch ignore the ground wire going to the switch. if anything is unclear, let me know

im assuming that you got the ones that plug into your cigarette light plug. just cut the wire and connect them to the 12v power supply (cig lighter socket) from the back.
Where exactly is the place (i think its the fuse box?) where you plug the wires into? And how do i get to it. Remember Im a total noob here guys, but i do learn quick. (built my computer from scratch)
The neons just have wires, no cigarete thing.

there is a DIY stickied on top of the page that shows you how to get to the back of the cig. lighter outlet (headunit instllation DIY). take your power from the wires going to the cig. lighter outlet, just use t-taps to connect your new wires without cutting the wires going to the outlet. once you taped those 2 wires, follow my pic and thats it. in my pic, red is + and black is -
Im beginning to understand what you are taking about.
The only problem i see if that the interior from a 2004 civic is a little different from a 2001. I now need to know how to remove the piece that holds the cigarete lighter. After that im sure i could figure it out.
Also I have not yet bought a switch but i intend to in the near future. Could i just tap the wires right into the cigarete lighter wires in the meantime?

i have a 2005 so it should be the same as yours, you remove the rectangular piece around the shift **** (it just Pops off), then remove the 2 screws holding the u shapped cig.lighter piece, then pull out the 2 sides, then pull on the whole piece towards the back of the car, now you have the back of the cig. lighter. and yes you can hook it up without the switch in the meantime, your neons will come on when the key is in the acc. or on possition, and turn off when your turn the key to off. if you didn't understand the way i explained how to get to the back of the outlet, pm me your email and i'll send you some pics
Alright thanks man!
Its late here so I will have to give it a try tomorrow morning.
Once again thanks for your help
Well it was different like i suspected but i figured out how to get to the back of the lighter. Anyway my final (hopefully) questions are what wires are positive. There is one black wire and one green and yellow wire. Also how would i do a wire tap?
Im guessing you just strip the wire on the lighter down and connect the neons to it then wrap in electrical tape? Or is there a better/safer way to do it?

you can check with a mulitimeter, or a test light if you have one of those. if you dont, the + is in the centre of the socket and the - is the other one. to tap, the safest way is to use wire taps (a connecter that you put over the wire and insert your new wire in and close it to make connection) or soldering and heatsink, but alot of people just cut and tape them, it's up to you and how fusy you are with your car wiring, i'm very fusy with the wiring, so i always do it clean and solid.
Actually I have one final question, seriously this time final question, my instructions say connect the black wire to the chassis ground, and connect the white/black striped wire to a switched power source. So that must be a setup with a switch? What should I do?
One my car there is one solid colored wire and one striped color wire should i just connect the striped to the striped and the solid to the solid? Or wont it really matter?

your cigarette lighter is a switched source. it should be electrically dead when the car is off.
the purpose of adding another switch inline is so you can turn the lights off if you want to, even while the car is on. doing so would be as easy as cutting the wire you tap between the cig lighter and the neon itself and wiring the two poles of a SPST switch to each free wire end.
