oil and gas mileage
oil and gas mileage
don't know if anyone experienced this but I did three oil changes and have calculated the gas milages.
it seems the 5w20 run better and gets better milage than the 5w30.
just wanted to see if anyone else noticed this.
btw i have an ex.

I put Mobil 1 5W-30 in my EX. Along with a Mobil 1 filter. I thought Mobil 1 would be a much better oil to run. Am I right or wrong??

This is not specific to the 2K1 Hondas but, it is of interest to those of you that really care about their engine oils. I have posted this before, but new folks are always coming in.

I don't know how much you know about motor oils, but the 1st number, if I understand correctly, is the cold start weight and the 2nd number is the running temp. Therefore, you get the same protection when the engine is cold from a 5w30 as you would from a 5w20 but it is thicker when the engine gets up to normal temp. If it's thicker, to me, that means there's more resistance. Not much because it's such a small difference but enought to where you may notice a difference in gas mileage. At least that's what I think.
One other thing. When it was coming time to do my 1st change, I wanted to do a synthetic but I couldn't find a 5w20. I asked the parts guy at the dealership and he said (and I think I've heard this before) that synthetics tend to run a little thinner then conventional and 5w30 should be fine. BTW I also run 5w30 Mobil 1 with an OEM filter from the dealership.
