Silly question about dust cover over strut

I just removed all 4 of my struts and have taken one of the front ones apart. Question is, how do you get the rubber boot off of the strut.. I am talking about the rubber dust/debris cover over the strut, the long black one. I thought it would just pull of... I was trying to use a screwdriver and work it over like the bolt or whatever part of the rod is that is right above the top of it, with no luck... I wasn't trying very forcefully and only spent a minute on it... is this the correct way??? All in all so far the project has gone good, with the exception for one of my back struts was a bitch to get off, 500ft/lbs impact wrench wouldn't get it, turns out my strut was bent probably from a wreck... finally got it though... Also, I use a pitman tool to get the tie rod ends off, worked perfectly, didn't bend the bolt or warp the threads... Maybe if I went back to my garage and messed with it, i'd be able to pop that cover right off, but I am at work now and just wondering if someone knows the answer...

Thanks

Brad

you just pull the boot off. Its not held on by anything. the rubber may have stuck to the strut. Try twisting and pulling.

Thanks for the info.. next all I have to do is finish taking them apart so I can figure out which parts need to be replaced and what struts/springs to go with... daily driver nothing special but choices, choices, choices... Thanks again...

Option 2 is always just cutting it off and peeling it away from the strut piston. I think they're about $20 each to buy new ones though.

If I were going to do that, I might as well just leave it on the strut... because the only reason I would take it off would be to re-use it right?? I mean, there aren't any other parts it's gonna help me get to right?

Thanks again for the info.

As you suggested, they popped right off, I guess I should have been patient and waited till I got home before I posted... Thanks though.
