ticket- need som advices

I need some help. I failed to stop at the red light b4 i turned right so i got a ticket for 101 bucks. It was hella stupid. They sent me a court day and including a paper which i can write down the whole situation at that time and send it to them or i can show up on a court day. So, i dont know which options is better? any advices? its my first ticket.
Also, my friends told me, do not use DEFER ( which they will put me in a prohibition for a year, if i dont get any tickets it wont be in my record) for the 1st ticket because i only can use the DEFER once in five or six years.
Oh, is it true that the insurance won't be raise up unless i have 2 tickets or more right? I was kind of confuse because if i dont use a DEFER now then by the time i got the second tickets. My insurance will raise up right away and i dont have a chance to use it anymore right?
I hope i make it clear enough so yall know wat im talking about

plead guilty, go to court, talk to the prosecutor, and plea it down to "obstruction of an intersection." this is a no point violation, just a fine. *only do this if the ticket you got will put points on your license.*

It depends how the courts operate in your state. Here it all depends on what court you go to. If you are getting tickets all the time in the same city and end up going to the same court, then they wont keep giving you defered. And defered isnt a yr. It is usually 3-6 months. And afterwards if you got no tickets, it is all dismissed. Now if you got a ticket, either do defered or take defensive driving. Neither will have the ticket go on your record, but your record will reflect that you took it. That isnt bad though. Now if you do get another ticket, but in a different city or area and the court is somewhere else, you can also ask for defered there. They dont know if you ever had defered at another court. You can do it as much as you want as long as the court accepts it. I have had several tickets and have done defensive driving a few times (have to wait a yr on each one though before you can do it again), done defered numerous times, and have done payment plans.

take it to court and plead nolo contender. that way the points stay off your license. whatever you do dont plead guilty. if you do that the points will show up on your lisence. trust me iam a deputy.
