Tracking down Original Owner to get maintenance records
How would you go about finding the original owner of a car?
I just bought a 2002 Honda Civic EX manual, had low mileage on it (36K), runs great, and so far the gas mileage is super, 41 mpg highway miles (right at 430 miles on the tank, before I filled it up again). And 32 so far in town and sitting Seattle area traffic (BLECH!)
Well it'll be coming up on 40K soon and I'd like to find out what type of maintenance has been done other than oil changes. I did find the dealer that the car was originally bought from, and the service department only has 2 oil changes, one tire rotation and a few rattle problems (one in the door and one in the sunroof from 2002 to 2004 on this car, both of which were fixed according to the service manager). The service manager says that no other maintenance was done on the car through the dealer, but has no idea if anything was done up to 30K elsewhere.
The original owner was a woman, so want to find the best way to find out without freaking her out, with some stranger asking about her old car. Now I did get the service manager to give her a call, but the number they had in file is disconnected. Guess I could just leave it as it is and start fresh, but if you know of anyway other than contacting every shop in the state, to see if it was worked on there.
I might be crazy, but I'm not THAT crazy... YET!

just start fresh. Change the oil, tranny fluid, maybe coolant but it is good till 100K miles, air filter if it is dirty, the normal stuff. She probably had maintanence done at other places besdies the dealer. And I bet she wont know what was done on the vehicle.
Pretty much what I have decided to do. Have already popped in a reuseable air filter, oil change next week, with a trip to the shop for a basic check up to see if it needs anything done.
