koni yellows and skunk2 coilovers

their were 'rumors' how skunk2 sleeved coilovers wont work with aftermarket struts/shocks; specifically, tokico HP/blues and KYB's lineup because of how small in diameter the coil is on these coilovers. compared to the koni yellow struts, the fronts are replaced using the OEM slots while the rears are bolted on. meaning the front isnt a direct bolt on strut, it requires modding your OEM ones to make it fit.

knowing that the front koni struts require draining your OEM struts oil out, does it increase the overall front strut size that could impact the skunk2 coilovers to not fit? when i look at the front OEM strut sitting on skunk2 sleeve coilovers, i can definately tell their is not much clearance inbetween the coil and the strut pole.

so my question is basically, would koni yellows work with skunk2 coilovers on the front (and rear)? any expierences?

if anyone has an photo of comparing the OEM struts to koni yellow, please post up. currently, the members ride gallery is 'moving to another server'.

yes they do work. i did mine about a month ago and they ride decent. im pretty low now and they handle like a champ too. kind of a pain in the *** to get the right tools to do the fronts so i got a local corvette shop to get them done. other than that, good to go.

For the Konis, you have to cut aprt the fronts, remove the guts, and re-use the lower outer portion of the case. The Koni must then fit inside it, so there is no way it could have a larger diameter than the stock piece.

yes, but you have to consider there are 50mm and 55mm stock struts. so i would assume the 50mm one would work.
thus if you have stock 55mm struts, just buy some used 50mm front struts and 50mm koni, then enlarge the 2 holes on each struts to fit.
you have to enlarge those holes anyways if you buy tokico shock or even tein ss.

anyone else running skunk2 sleeved coilovers with aftermarket struts?

if i can hear more from 03+ owners on skunk2 sleeves on aftermarket struts, ill buy some. but it seems like skunk2 coils dont fit correctly with KYB and tokico struts to my knowledge

My sleeves are to small for my kyb's. The sleeves fit the oem struts (which are 50 mm I think) but need another 2mm to clear the kyb's. I have been trying to find a source for just the sleeves and perches, but so far no luck. Anyone know where I can get larger sleeves and perches? Looks like I need 55mm (bore) or slightly larger sleeves.

i don't think that companies sell sleeves separate but if you have the time try the junkyard them might have what you want

Talked to a friend who is going to make some new sleeves for me. We are going to reuse the old perches(nuts), just gonna bore and thread them to match the custom sleeves.

Konis have a lip on them. Assuming you cut the struts in the right spot, the lip bottoms out of the top of the housing at the same time the insert bottoms out on the strut. To install any sleeve on a set of Konis, you need to put the sleeve on, then knock the Koni down. That way the lip holds the sleeve in place. The sleeve does not fit over the lip, so if your konis are installed already, have fun getting them out.
