Front speakers: Polk dB650 vs. CDT CL-6 vs. JBL GTO626
Front speakers: Polk dB650 vs. CDT CL-6 vs. JBL GTO626
Trying to make a decision on some affordable front speakers 6.5". Ideally something that would not require me to widen the door speaker opening, which I would probably need to do for some brands like Infinity.
Any of these will be amped. Any preferences? They can all be had for approximately the same price range. Unless there are other suggestions.
Listed with manufacturers' specifications.
Polk dB650
Power handling RMS: 60w

CDT CL-6 (Components)
Power handling RMS: 80w
Efficiency: 92 dB
Freq: 60 Hz-20 kHz
Depth: 2-1/4"
JBL GTO626

I have the polks in my car. They have a great sound.....BUT they do not fit into the doors. It's not a depth issue. It is a diameter issue. The way the speaker tapers in the back makes it not go into the door. Either you need to find some type of mount that makes the speaker stick way out (which may make the door panel not fit on) or cut around the hole. I decided to cut new holes in the door.
The polks do sound good though. I'm not sure about the others for comparison though.

I have the CDT CL6's in my rear, and the HD6 components up front. IMO the CL's are more of a rear fill speaker than a front driver. Look at the frequency range on them....lacking a little. Granted the sound quality is FANTASTIC, I love them. But I don't think the CL's are good for your primaries.
