Need Help! Dash kit/bracket aren't cooperating.

I need major help before I throw my shiny new head unit against the wall! I purchased a Clarion DXZ645MP, along with a Scosche dash kit and wiring harness. I got the harness wired up fine and everything, but I can't figure out for the life of me how this deck is supposed to install into this dash kit. I've got the "universal mounting bracket" that came with the deck. I slide it into the dash kit, and there's no where to secure it - no screws, tabs, or anything of the sort. How do you get this thing to stick in the dash?

from what i remember you use the brackets that came with the mounting kit... it then slides into the kit and you can either use the hu's trim or the one supplied to you with the mounting kit. there's no way with the kit to have it really secured...you can use the cage for the clarion that you got instead or you can get the double din mounting kit and use the factory brackets if you want it really secure in there. just remember if someone wants to steal it from you, they'll always find a way.

I know for the 2002 they gave me the wrong kit, it reused the little pocket door thingy. And i think it was from scosche. I ended up finding a different one and it had it's own pocket, with no door, and it worked fine, so make sure they gave you the right one.

You don't necessarily need said "universal mounting bracket"

Personally I would try and sell or return the Scosche and buy a Metra, part # 99-7897. Much better piece and VERY easy to install...

This might be a pointless question, but did you RTFM?

I agree, this Scosche kit is just awful. Poorly made, I had to modify it to even get it to snap into the dash. I ended up just reusing the factory pocket and eliminating the dash kit completely. The screw holes lined up perfectly, and it honestly doesn't look bad at all.

I did RTFM... but the documentation is useless. It seriously goes like this: 1. Install snap-in pocket. 2. Install universal bracket 3. Install radio 4. Install DIN trim ring 5. Enjoy. Some helpful details there, for sure.

I installed the metal square din mounting bracket and used pop rivets to the factory dash frame. Just point the rivets from inside the can to outside it.
