check engine light

I hae a 2002 ex coupe and the engine light has been coming on and going off for the last couple of days. The car is running fine and there doesn't seem to be any fluid leaks or anything else wrong with the car. The dealership wants to charge me 60 bucks just to run the diagnostic. Has anyone else been having this problem? I have 37,000 miles on the car and I'm the only owner. I baby my car(except for the weekends ) and find it hard to believe the the computer would be dead already.

Check Engine Light

The light comes on when you need to have it serviced (waste of money). If thats not it and its running fine then look in the manual and it tells you how to turn it off.

They are talking about the maintenance light. Are you sure it is the check engine light? IF it is, have you gotten gas recently? You may have not put the gas cap on tight enough. To reset, tighten the gas gap and take of the positive cable off the battery for 10 min. Put the cable back on and go about your daily business. If it comes back on, then take it to honda.

If you want to reset it.....
push in your odometer resetter on your dash....
hold it in for a couple seconds...then turn the car to the on position...
wait for all the lights to go out...
turn the car back to off....that should reset it...

People need to read threads more carefully I believe .. as robbclark1 said:

Listen to robbclark, he's a great advice person. Others in this thread do refer to the Maintenance Required light which is in my opinion, but a Check Engine light needs some looking into.

2K2REDCIVIC tells you another way to get around pulling the positive battery cable off, just as long as you are ready to go looking in your fuse box

Check engine light usually is an indicator that a sensor has failed or sensing something bad. "USUALLY".

Now it could be you're o2 sensor. But 37k is kinda too early for a MIL/CEL to go off. Try RobbClark's way. But if it doesnt work.. you have to take it somewhere that does repair CEL problems.

Check Engine Light on? Well, did you check to see if the engine was still there??

Ok, nevermind... it wasn't that funny. Well, um.. good luck on that! Seriously, you better have that looked at! Don't just reset it man. There might be something wrong and those pesky little lights usually are trying to warn us humans that somethin' aint' right, ya know? (Check Engine I am referring to)

the fuse is in the under hood fuse box on the pass side. without looking @ it i think its the one all the way to the right (the smaller one's), in the middle.

but if u look under the cap it will tell u!!
