Hey Guys
I wanted to ask you guys what your opinion is of the Costa Mesa area and/or Whittier Law school. I ask because I really wanted to move out to CA and Whittier is one of the schools I applied/was accepted to. I already know the academics point of view, but I was hoping you guys could give me your impressions/ word of mouth about the school and area.
Is it a nice town/city? Is it a nice campus? Big? How much expected rent might be... stuff like that.
I know I can always contact the administrative office, but I would like to hear some unbiased reviews. ANY information would be helpful. Thanks
Also, i'm not sure if i'm in the right forum...

costa mesa is nice. overall.
its one of the nicer cities in orange county.. so rent is probably up there too.
although if u're near the ghetto areas.. I'm not sure.. ie: some parts of it is close to Santa Ana..
u should check one of those websites with demographic on specific cities so u can get a feel for it.
what er.. city are u from in MA?
depending on where u're from, u should definitely get ready for some adjustment. heh.
I'm sure u'll enjoy sunny southern california where all the trend starts at. prepare to have to deal with the 405 during traffic jam, but the night life here is probably better than where u're at too. only a 30-40 Min. drive to some of LA's better clubs.
anyways back to costa mesa.. whats there guys? hmmm.. there's costa mesa mall, one of the nicer ones in orange county.. that metro point area.. hmm. fashion islan is in costa mesa too no?
basically you'll be 10 minute away from everything you need. beach, mall, food, entertainment, airport (john wayne).... anyways like I said, its one of the nicer cities in orange county. crime level is probably less too compare its neighboring cities.

Yeah, thanks. I did look at the website, but didn't find it all that inciteful... i.e. pictures of campus/buildings
I'll definitly check out the city's website for info on the community. I live in Acton, MA. about 45min west of boston. It's in the suburbs, but not quite central MA.
Yeah, when I read it was in Orange County I was like, "Yeah! Tons of beach parties with scantly clad chicks in huge mansions! I can't wait." <-- Cuz FOX wouldn't lie.
I've been wanting to move out to Cali since Freshman year in college.

I live in east cmesa, very nice quite place. rent around my area is about 1500 - 1800 for 2bdr apartment/condo, or 2200 for small 3bdr house. Whittier is close to the Santa Ana border, and there's a lot of places up and down Harbor so I'm sure you can find something. LMK if you need any help with your transition to OC.

Sorry to revive this, but as I'm looking for an apartment none of the places mention how close/far they are from Whittier Law School (most mention the highways and beach). Can any of you guys tell me what part of Costa Mesa Whittier LS is located (North, East, South, West?)
The maps on mapquest and other online sites don't really help
**Also, what cellphone carriers are good in that area? I have Tmobile right now and was thinking of upgrading my phone**

Costa Mesa is nice; you drive like two feet and get to Santa Ana -- which some parts are quite ..uhhh...
but If you are from another state, I'm sure all of California will be pretty upscale and nice to you. That is the impression I get from some of my co-workers who are from other states; they all think I'm spoiled from growing up here, used to shopping at South Coast and stuff.

My friend just graduated from whittier, and she lives in santa ana...pays about 600~ rent for a studio...prices are insane. But the area is really nice, the ppl *can* be nice, gotta find the good ones. Ya just gotta figure that traffic is gonna be a bitch, no matter where you live. unless you live like right behind the school and can walk there.
Good luck!

hmm, this traffic being a bitch is making me a bit nervous... I've decided that at least for first semester I will be renting from one of my mom's old elementary/middle school classmates in Anehiem. (apparently it's a big house and they have a guest house that I'd live in /bedroom and bathroom) Yahoo maps says it's roughly 15 miles which technically shouldn't be too bad since I am commuting over 20 miles to work right now. I'm hoping since I already spend 40 minutes commuting one way, I'll be used to it for school.
I'm going to give this a shot since the rent will only be $350/mo and worse case scenario I spend winter break lookin for an apartment for second semester. I really don't want to get locked up in a year lease for an apartment I haven't seen. And although it's the same with renting from my mom's school mate; at least our families are somewhat friends.
I gotta call the admissions office and ask them how abundant is there parking. =\ Hopefully inbetween classes I can get work done at the library
