HELP! x3racing coilover sleeve kit...
HELP! x3racing coilover sleeve kit...
I recently bought a set of x3racing coilover/sleeve kit, whattever you want to call it. I took apart my suspension and came to relise that the little aluminum sleeve does not fit over the shock. The sleeve just rests on the top of the plastic casing around the shock. I consulted with a buddies dad who is a mechanic, he said he has never seen anything like what i bought before. He said that under the stress that the car will put on the sleeve, it will boggle around slip off to one side and that it would just not be kosher at all. The thing that gets me is i bought this kit because it said that it would fit my 03 civic. So now that i got it and i am not sure how to install it the correct way i am asking people who may have put this kit on their car or somthing like it for help. Am i doing somthing wrong?? Please help! Any help would be excellent. Ok please write me back. Thanks!

Your first problem is that you bought crappy generic coilovers. They may say they fit an 03 civic, but who knows with some of the generic companies. The second thing is that they changed the mount from 01 to 02+ so you have to be careful what to buy. I would sell those and get a good set of true coilovers or some springs with Koni's because I doubt Koni's will fit with those coilovers.

I've learned that you should never go cheep with your suspension, it is afterall the only thing keeping your *** attached to the ground.
Ye ye... I hear ya guys.. they are hella cheap and i know i shouldnt have gone the cheap route, but hey they were 45 dollars. The reason i got em was because they were cheap as hell, they would lower my car and if i get them and they work hell yeah and if they dont then o well it was 50 dollars u know. It was hit or miss and i missed. SO you guys say that i should just go for a nice set or coilovers. How much do they go for. I want to get somthing that isnt necessarily like hella good, i just want somthing that will maintain stock ride but lower my car just enough to let my 18's fill the wells! Thanks again for your help. That bit about the change from 01's to 03's mount syestem was way help ful thanks fellas! If anyone has any suggestions about some nice springs or somthing that i cant get for like 200 bills help me out, and hook up the info. Thanks again talk to yalls lata!

There is not much you can get for $200. If you want adjustable ride height, get Ground Control or Skunk2 sleeved coilovers. If you don't want adjustable height than I think the Eibach pro kit might be good for you. It only lowers 1" and you probably won't have a need for a camber a kit or aftermarket shocks. Please read the FAQ in my signature before you lower. Lowering requires ALOT of things to be changed. If you want a nice full coilover kit, Tein basics (~$800) will be good for you.

I'm working on my suspension
Koni's with Ground control coilovers. Can I just put the Koni's with the ground controls wrapped around the koni's in after I pull off the stock ones?

yes, yes, yes, yes yes yes. Cutting most springs will affect your ride and the spring quality. You can usually only do it if you cut a "dead coil" off of a spring. A dead coil is the part of the spring that compresses so that the coils are touching. Neuspeed recommends cutting one dead coil from their springs. It can only be done on certain springs....i dont remember if they have to be linear or progressive.... We will highly suggest not doing it, but if you want go ahead.
