Alarms, floating or permanent?
I'm always contemplating about an alarm, but I'm also looking for all the bells and whistles...
So, my question to you guys are: do you think a car alarm should be considered as a floating mod, or a permanent mod to your car?
By this I mean, floating in the sense that you would spend $1000 on an alarm, and have someone uninstall it, and reinstall it to a new car, if/when you change cars.
(I already have a 'floating' theft deterrent system, The Club
and stock wheel locks)
By permanent, I mean you spend $1000 on an alarm, and when you change cars, say bye bye to your sweet system.
I'm not sure I can justify spending $600 or so on a nice, high end alarm with pager alarm, remote start, etc. and then watch it be gone when I switch cars....
I know that it'll cost around $200 at least to get the alarm uninstalled, then probably another $200 to get it re-installed into another car, plus any associated risks of damaging the system during the process (i.e. rusted bolts, etc.)
Any opinions??
I park my car outside all the time, so remote start would be nice, and alarm would be nice to notify me of all those a-holes that try to steal my stock emblems, and/or scratch my bumper

It's not that hard to remove and reinstall an alarm. But if your original installer did a wack of fancy tricks to ensure theft deterrence (ie hard-to-access-wires and backup batteries) then you better have him do the uninstall as well...
I consider it floating...

i consider it floating, but i'm more than sure if i sell the car, i'll be too damn lazy to get it unistalled....
..... hence i think it's a floating mod, yet i'll probably treat it as a permanent mod... heehee

It might not be hard for the installer guy, but the fact that it'll take him 3-4 hrs to slowly tear it apart without damage, and re-installing the sucker is going to cost alot of bling....
It's kinda like buying and installing a spoiler... If you want it off the car, you're gonna have to bondo the drill holes, and repaint the trunk lid.... probably cheaper to just keep it on the car when you sell it..... <sigh>....
