Weird "sssSssSSSss" sound at idle..?

i've had my car for about a few months. i'm at 5k miles already. but anyway. at about 1000 miles, i installed my AEM CAI. well...at around 3k miles....at idle....i started to hear this muddled hissing noise, coming from underneath the hood i think. it's weird. and u know how....when u turn ur car off, if you have an intake, you hear that nice SSSSS sound. well...at times, the "SSSS" sound would come out a little muddled, if you know what i mean. it's hard to explain but pretty annoying, especially considering that my car is new. anyway, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before and what it actually is, before i take it to the dealer. k thanx guys!

oh by the way, i used to think it was cuz my intake filter was dirty and the dirt was causing that weird muddled noise but....now i'm not sure. but it's only been a few thousand miles, when i hear u shoudl clean the filter every 5k to 10,000 miles.

hm, I think 5k miles is a VERY VERY short period to clean your filter ... I wouldn't think you would need to clean it for at least 20-30k miles

hmm ... perhaps your filter is loose and it's comin off? ... or the intake is loose on the throttle body?

If it comes out a lil' muddled, then check to see if the intake piping is attached properly.

EDIT: Don't take it to the dealer unless they installed it for you.

Oh yeah, and you should clean the oil filter every second oil change.

I might know what your talking about. I post about something like that also. I could hear this noise before I put the intake on. Transmission more than likely.

actualy, it only started after i put my intake on. what sounds very strange is...say i'm going over a speed bump and i brake...turn my steering wheel to the left or right a bit...then go. i can hear the muddled hiss noise when i turn the steering wheel. lol....so weird. and then when i park my car in teh garage....i just listen and sometimes i can hear the sound. it's very erratic. doesnt happen all the time. i'm just gonna loosen then retighten all the clamps on the intake piping, and especially the filter.

I used to have a short ram intake and it would hiss constantly until the car warmed up. Then it would stop. I did notice it when turning the wheel. It's normal--just the air being sucked into the engine.

yea make sure theres no leak in the piping or anything like that.. it might be causing it.. and turn the a/c on .. see if it gets louder.

my short ram intake does that....kinda....
like, it makes hissing sounds when i turn the steering wheel, and stuff. im pretty sure it's normal...it's just the intake doing it's work.

actually, i think i've come to a conclusion that it is probably a leakage from the cat piping. but anyway, i'm not 100% sure so i gotta check it out. but why would the intake make the sound just cause i turn the steering wheel.
