Bike exhaust noise VS. Car exhaust noise

Why is it allowed for bikes to have loud exhaust and cars arent?

To be honest, from my understanding it's not. Bike or car, the exhaust can't be louder than 96dB. (less if the state restricts it even more). However, police seem to not enforce it. Some do, but most don't.

Bikers get away with a lot where I live. From what I know, some are modded without worries from cops. I also heard that some insurance companies in NYC dont insure bikes over a certain engine size so.....

some of the harleys are soooo friggin loud its rediculous, it actually hurts my ears when they go by. there needs to be some sort of uniform sound law, and if there is, it needs to be enforced.

im a police officer \ dispatcher for Pearl Mississippi, there is a set "noise ordnance" for cities.....no matter what motor vehicle, they have to follow these rules......we never hardly enforce it unless someone REALLY pisses us off.

Bikers get away with alot. It's 'hot august nights' here in Reno, and cops don't care how loud they are. I'm looking forward to seeing all the hot old cars (and new), but the bikes are just annoying.

why does it seem when cops are on duty they dont express how they really feel about situation? i mean, if you talk to one of the boys in blue while theyre patrolling or something theyre not going to say anything near what you just said. its never "we really dont give a ****" its more like "we must follow the rules and regulations.." etc etc...
