Last night I was going to work and I pass by this first gen eclipse that is turning left. He all of a sudden pulls back onto the road and flies up behind me. I move over to let him pass and he proceeds to line up with me.

My windows are rolled down and I can hear his turbo as he gasses up and then his BOV when he lets off. He keeps trying to goat me into racing but I don't race on the streets anymore. I only race on the track.

Anyways.....

We come to a light and I can hear him revving up. The light turns green and I just sit there hoping he will take off and leave me the fvck alone. But he just sits there too!!! grrrrr......so finally the people behind us honk their horn and I slowly accelerate. He gasses up, slows down over and over again until he finally rips in front of me and turns into a housing develpment.


QUESTION TIME.....

What's the best thing to do when someone wants you to race but you don't want to? I tried to avoid it so bad and he still kept wanting me to race.

Since I didn't race him does he think that I was afraid? Did he respect me for not wanting to do something stupid?

How could I have frustrated him? By not racing, did i frustrate him?

I just want to know from those of you who street race what the best way to get other morons to leave me alone.....lol

I mean get a clue, rev up on me a few times and if i don't give chase then leave me alone!!!!

i would do the same thing you did... just ignore it. don't even pay attention to the person. let him get all pissed off and who cares what he really thinks..

no one says you have to race... race on your own terms if you want to

I get a$$holes like that too. Just b/c my car is slammed, kitted and I got custom flames painted on my car, people think im speed racer. so i ususally step on it and give them a run for about 10 ft...just enough for my exhaust to make a little noise, let him/her blow by me and im done they speed off and i sit and think to myself "what a a d*ckhead" and go about my bussiness. this car is going to be strickly show....my last car was a 1g eclipse with a ported 18g turbo running low to mid 12's. so i let them have their fun and i make a little noise hahaha but i think fly, you handled it fine. If the guy was to be a douche let him be 1 and then when he finnally gets into an accident and kills some1 and he has to live with that guilt then you know you really won the race.

Just ignore it. I was at a stop light once next to a modded Camero SS. he kept looking at me and revving. I just ignored him. Not to mention the RSXs/SIs i see on the highway, who purposely stay back to try and race me. I just dont' feel like doing something that stupid. I will purposely speed up to **** people off who are trying to get in front of me, but that is about it.

I have gone so far as to wave people to go ahead. I've even had people roll down the window and ask me if I want to race... No thanks. I'm not scared, I just don't like speeding tickets and I know my limits. Not that I give someone a run on ocassion, but its just not always the time or the place.

Don't worry about them respecting you... some people just need to know that not everyone with a modded car is looking to race.

Its like peer pressure in grade school... do you, don't worry about anyone else.

I do the same thing, no more messing around on the street, maybe on the freeway, but def not on the streets. Instead of acting scared, I usually do one of three things 1) turn my music up really loud and just laugh, 2) roll my window down, look at his car and shake my head or 3)dont let him get next to me for a long period of time, cops will think you ARE going to race, therefore, you're screwed. Just play it off like you have a 5.7 V8 under your engine when an ******* like that does it again, it pisses them off, plus, they're even more eager to race you and I KNOW they'll leave you alone if nothing happens.

Don't look at them. Then when the light goes green... take off in 1st super slowly. Just cruise your way up the gears. They'll get tired of going so slow and just rice away.

Just keep driving. I may race someone every now and then, but I dont race every single person that pulls up next to me and revs up. I would have to fill up my car at least three times a week. You did exactly what I would do. You can also roll up the windows and just drive normal. They then will just drive off.

hey flyrice....if im at a light and that happens, i usually rev up then take off...but then immediatly slam on the brakes and resume normal acceleration. then theyre left taking off down the street. i highly doubt they'd come back, and if they do, then just ignore them...

yeah thats pretty much what i do if they don't get the hint. when all else fails, i match their revs, and spin some tires when the light turns green. then ease it to slower than normal driving, as you watch them fly down the road thinkin their badass. then...hopefully, you might see a cruiser pull out behind them ready to write a ticket. hey don;t worry about respect. you don't WANT their respect.

Well I ask you this, if no one ever tried to race in their civic, how would you win any races?? Its people like you that give the mustang a bad name because people tend to judge the car based on there opinion of the owner. Chevy people don't do stupid crap like this, neither do pontiac people, its always a V6 mustang owner.

Its funny because when it comes to car civics are close to the bottom of the food chain, but not at the bottom. You having 2 more cylinders and over double our displacement are only slightly higher than us. But you feel the need to come here and try to make fun of everyone thats below you. Now that i come to think of it you own one of the weakest V6 in production.
So i understand you not wanting to race anyone with a V6 or a V8. So you'd best stick to racing 4 cylinders because you can't beat much else. But even then you can't even beat half of the 4 cylinders on the road. Even my 4 cylinder mazda will run circles around mustang (before you try to respond with some smartass comment, my mazda can run dead even with a GT so don't try to say you'll beat me.)

Now back to the topic

When someone is trying to start a race they have a few goals. First they want you to see them. Once they see you look at them or their car. They move on to the next goal which is to get you to race so they'll speed up, slow down over and over. if you respond to this then they want to find a place to race.Where there last goal is to win.

Most races can be avoided by simply not responding to there advances. Because if your like me and look at every car on the road, then you can't really not look at them. Once you see them, just ignore them, don't speed, don't do anything that makes them think you want to race. Cause then they will follow you even further.

It depends on who you went about this. If you constantly looked at his car while not racing. He probably thinks you were scared. But if you glance over once then ignore he will most likely think that you just didn't see him. Either way to him racing is not stupid so he won't respect more for not racing. Oh and try not to turn off early (whenever your in a car you have a destination, just continue on you way) because if he pulls alongside you and you turn off 5 seconds later he will mostly like say something stupid like "He heard my turbo and got scared"
to all his friends.

I don't think you frustrated him, i think he couldn't find a race so he found you and decided to stick with you until you raced. Because usually after you ignore them for about a minute they go find someone else to race. As there is no point in wasting time with someone that won't race. You just got stuck with someone really looking for a race and couldn't find one, that or you did something to really make him think you wanted to race.

um, my best friend has a 2000 V6 stang and when we race at the track I can beat him most of the time. It depends who gets the best launch but you v6 stang owners are not a tough beast to beat.

Yes, all great replies. dont let your ego get the best of you. YOu'll probably never see that person again so you dont have to worry "now he thinks im a chicken". racing should be only on the tracks because of a high risk you run. Innocents suffer because some n00b decides to race an acura only to smash into a lightpost...or worse a van with a family of four or something.

hey fly, if you want to really frustrate people you should take a ride with me some night lol. hell i frustrate people without even knowing it. 2 nights ago me and a friend were going down a mountain behind this old trans am or whatever and i was doing what i always do. then at the redlight at the bottem of the hill we were minding our own business and she turns to us and says "HEY! I DONT HAVE DAMN BREAK LIGHTS AND IVE GOT ****ING KID IN THE CAR!" and im like "...uhhh...thanks for sharing useless information with us, good bye"
