Car shakes when A/C on
Car shakes when A/C on
this is my 1rst summer with the civic and i been using the A/C often. i noted that when i stop at a red light or when my car is in park with the A/C on, the car shakes for about a second every 30-60 seconds, only when the a/c is on. did any1 experience this b4?

Considering the apparent strength of our HVAC systems, and the equally-apparent LACK of power from our D17s, I would have to say that it's just the engine wobbling a bit in the mounts as it comes to idle. Bear in mind, the A/C compressor puts more of a load on the engine than any other component. When you're idling and that thing kicks on or off, you're going to feel it.

yeah if you listen to it closely when it shakes . . You'll notice what sounds like a fan or compressor kicking on. It's the combination of that, plus the pully grabbing hold of that belt hooked to the engine and bogging her down. Also makes the sound coming from your engine bay a lot louder than just the regular quiet idle.

thanx for the info guys, when the car does begin to shake for that second, i do head something like a fan kicking in pretty hard with a low vooooooo sound. a couple of u said it could be the motor mouts so i will go check that out with the dealder and see what they say. anyways, thanx for the info

Yup. . . that "VOOOOOO" sound is the compressor fan winding.
Go ahead and check your mounts, but I think you're going to find that they're just fine. Seriuosly, our engines just have a hard time coping with the strain of turning that compressor at idle. Now if you were in an AV6, it would be a totally different story.

aight, thanx yukonart, i never knew that the A/C is dependent on the engine, i thought that was a completly different system, and that also answers my question of when i have the A/C on, in order for my car to go normally, the RPMs have to hit 4k instead of the usual 3k, always sounded like the enigne is struggling and pushing a little harder with the A/C on.
