Encounter with base AT RSX

This guy was pacing me in his base AT silver rsx, so we both line up, then we both floor it, stay even for a while, pulls on me little by little, then by 60 he had 2 car lengths on me. I had a friend in the car, he was alone.

Mine is A/T w/ short ram/exhaust. oh and iridiums :-p

Auto 300zx twin turbo runs faster 1/4 mile times than a stick.

And an auto buick GN will own 95% of all cars on the road.

Don't fvck with this...

Own? Hardly. Neither has broke 16s bone stock. I would say they're about the same but I'd put my money on the Civic only if I could trust the driver to launch properly.

When he was saying "automatics are slow" it is true. Automatic transmissions require horsepower to power them, manuals shifters are shifted by the human, thus it does not suck as much power from the engine, then the engine can focus on going faster. There are some 3spd Racing transmissions that do not have a reverse gear and are designed to only go in a straight line, yes those are faster than manuals, but then agian you dont see any body driving a car on the street with a transmission that has no reverse gear. And sure you can argue that a 2001 Camaro SS automatic is faster than a Manual EX 5spd Civic I really dont think those are fair comparisions, and if you were to compair a 2001 Camaro SS 6spd to the auto the 6spd would be significantly faster. So you see, it is true that automatics are slow, they will always be slower than a manual transmission car provided the manual transmission driver is a capable driver. Also most automatic transmissions are designed for fuel economy not for going fast so they usually do not red line the car. And even if they do they still provide a loss of HP a significant loss of usually 10 or more horsepower. Compairing a buick to other cars on the road is not a valid comparision because it has a larger engine and is geared to go faster where as the car with the same parts and manual would own the auto

When looking at most production cars, a stick shift will be FASTER than it's auto counterpart.

However, one of the big reasons auto is used in drag cars is because of CONSISTENCY. An auto is more consistent and more likely to run the same time every time than a stick shift is. This is particularly important when bracket racing.

Civics haven't broken into 16's? Then what is the small handful that have seen high 15's stock?

In response to Diemos.... an auto in that car would be faster. At that speed, humans can't shift with a clutch as fast as an automatic. I had an auto in my built-up camaro for that reason... 1/2 second quicker.... straight up! So, no, another Buick with the same parts and a manual, would NOT be faster!!
