front vibration
My car has been lowered about 2-3 months ago, and my car has been smooth with no problems...now my car is vibrating up front and my rims &tires are brand new and balanced perfectly......I never got an alignment after lowering, but people are tellin me my rim might be bent or somethin f'd up......please help, what could this be???? Would need of an alignment cause vibration up front???? I hope I didn't bend a rim!
and it seems to be shaking at around 50-80 ish ....the steering wheel just moves a little back and forth but i can feel the shaking/vibration more in the front .... Thread Starter

yes i have a rim lock on each tire, but the tires were just balanced a week ago......with out the rim lock of course. But, I dont think the rim lock would cause that much shaking or vibration.

When your wheels were balanced, did they use tape weights or clip weights? Whichever types they used, check to see if any fell off. If they used tape weights, there will be the tape gum remaining on the rim, and if there are clips, well, it all depends on if you know how many by making a mental note when they installed them.

I'M NOT SURE HUB RINGS ARE THE PROBLEM , THIS A MORE RECENT PROBLEM......KIND OF OUT OF THE BLUE, WHICH IS WHY I THINK MY RIM MIGHT BE BENT, DOES ANYONE NOTICE A DIFFERENCE FROM HUB RINGS????
u may want 2 look at the tires on the balanced. i got new tire and my tires have a up down move movment. they need 2 be truded(my be off on spelling). they ride like crap between 60 and 80. just smoke them off. do u have cheap or good tires? it play a great part in the ride
Shaking of the entire front end does not sound like out-of-balance wheels. It may be a sign of a problem with some front suspension component(s).
If the front wheels are out of balance, you would feel it almost completely in the steering wheel only, not with the entire front end.
If the rear wheels are out of balance, you would feel shaking the shaking in your butt through the seat.
Does the shaking happend only in a very precise speed range? Does it go away as you speed up?
Here's are some simple tests:
1) rotate the back tires up to the front (and take off your wheel locks if you have any)
AND/OR
2) put your stock rims and tires back on (you can just do the 2 front ones to save some time).
If shaking stays after both tests, then you know it's probably not your wheels/tires, but some other front-end component causing the prob.

lease: very true.... It's still vibrating from 60-80, after 80 it's smooth and at low speeds under 50 it is smooth a well. All tires are new and balanced, and I just got a alignment. My rims poke out a little(offset) and the weight are in the middle of the rim, maybe they should be more towards the inside edge...........
This is so frustrating, and i don't have stockies to test with.

dont roll your eyes at me...
i had a new set of wheels put on and they were balanced for about 2 months and then were out of balance (causing a shaking at 50+)...rebalanced them and all was good
then about 5 months later i needed a rotation and someone forgot to put my hub ring back on one of the wheels (causing a shaking at 65+)...replaced the ring and all was good again
ive had no more problems since then...

Oh, and tape weights should be as close to the outside edge as possible, to counteract stuff like the air valve (which makes the wheel shake at high revolutions). And this is also reason why the easiest rims to balance are the ones which take traditional weights that hook onto the outside edge of the rim.
edit: btw, by outside edge, I mean the side closest to the air valve

I just want to get this fixed.....I'll try the hub rings.....where are they located? do they come with the car stock? and what do they look like? My car never did this before, and i've had the rims for 7 months now, Is there anyway I can make sure that is the problem for sure? Honda won't even look at it because they just default to "It's your rims...."
It never did this for 7 months. Thread
