How accurate are lazers at 1171.1 feet??
I got pulled for speeding (cant really say that I was or wasnt) when I was keeping up with traffic. Not a big deal cuz I can pay for it but what bothers me is the fact that it was with a lazer at 1171.1 ft. My estimation is at that distance, how the hell can you be sure you got the right vehicle? If hes like a milimeter off, that could be up to hundred feet in either direction at 1171.1 ft. Traffic is listed as medium and there were several larger suv's around me that were going as fast as I was. Plus, I was going under an overpass for a major highway with a spd limit of 65. Could he have been off enough to get someone on the highway above and think it was me? He said he was lucky when I asked him how he got me out of everyone. I drive a silver solara, not a huge target by any means? Do I have a defense. Any know how the accuracy percentage change per 100 ft? Please help. Thanks
based on this laser gun http://opticsplanet.com/catalog/bush...peedster.shtml
Q. What is the distance that the speed of a car can be read?
A. 0-1300 feet away.
U should fight it tho. http://www.ticketkiller.com/

well, I think I'm gonna just pay it cause I just read that Atlanta Laser advertises that their products are accurate up to 4000 feet. thats almost a mile!

i suggest not paying full fines. at least try contesting it and/or plead not guilty to reduce fines and have chance to get it dismissed. you have nothing to lose at this point now.

Lasers are pinpoint accurate. They do not register a reading if the target is out of distance. If you are targeted with a laser, then your not going to win arguing the distance or calibration.

To further answer your quetion lasers are the most accurate targeting device known. The laser itself may expand to a maximum of 2 feet in diameter at 1k feet depending on the age of the laser device. The laser is not like a regular x,k or ka band radar. The laser itself has an infared dot that you place on the vehicle you wish to target. The reading is instantaneous, as soon as he/she pulls the trigger he/she has targeted your vehicles speed. He would have had to aim at the bridge above you to target a vehicle up that high. The radar is also not affected by objects such as overpasses. Since the laser uses high-intensity light pulses and a radar uses use radar radio waves aimed at a moving vehicle to determine speed and not to mention that the normal targeting distnace for an up to date laser is 1k feet. All I have to say is good luck to ya, and hope it works out for you.
Wait a second..I read something, somewhere, maybe that lasers can though be affected by water particles in the air. Depending on how humid the conditions are the readings can be slightly off....and the greater the distance away, the increases in incorrect readings. Someone correct me or at least dive into this deeper...cuz I read something like that but I can't remember where....

This is true since lasers use light waves to measure distance. However, for this to be an issue you would have to be driving in some seriously thick fog. A simple rain storm will not affect the measurement unless its a terrential downpour, in which no cop is going to stand out in the rain to target you. The only major issue lasers have is that they can't transmit through windows, so the officer wither has to be outside the car or has to have the window rolled down in order to target the vehicle. A stnadard radar does not apply in this fashion, since it can transmit through transparent objects.

Yeah. . Those laser radar guns have a scope on them so the police can be dead accurate. So they probably not only had you clocked at that distance, but also had a general descrption of your vehicle. It would be even easier if you were by 2 SUVs. They would know that they were targeting the "car".
