Can borough police give u a ticket...
In a university parking garage which is part of the university and requires a card to get into? Cuz at my school we have our own police department within it and they police the university, but for some reason a borough police officer goes into there parking garage which is on the campus and requires a card to get into and gives out tickets. im appealing it tho cuz theres no reason they should be ticketing me cuz im parked legally and the university knows that, but aren't the police department at the school or the parking police responsible for ticketing cars? thanx
If the school is located within that city, I would assume the city police would have jurisdiction within the school/campus. Thats how it is up here anyway. If the university gives them the power to enforce traffic/parking violations on their campus then your out of luck.

Maybe at your university, which I highly doubt. If the University is within the city, then no matter what, the city has jurisdiction over the property. The city typically will not patrol the area, being that it is already policed by another agency. Take for example a city that lies within a county. The county would be the sherrifs dept. and the city the city pd. Now the city patrols the city, but a sheriff still has the power to enter the city and write a ticket or respond to a call. This is because the city lies within the county, and the sheriffs dept. has jurisdiction throughout the entire county. Just like a university that lies within a city is subject to not only the campus police, but the city as well. You will typically not see this occur, because dept's see this as stepping on each others toes.

The only way they couldnt give you a ticket in the parking lot is if the university is a private university......If it is in the city limits and it is state property then the police can write you a ticket.

well i appealed the ticket cuz i parked on the lower level of a parking garage where it says "oversized VEHICLES" and i park there because in order to go to the second floor to park u have to go over a speed bump and since i have a full kit and my car is pretty much dumped to the ground i can not go over the speed bump and park on the second floor, thus i park on the first floor since my car is pretty much oversized since it cant go over the speed bump. i told the security guards who where at the parking garage the first few days it opened i'd park on the second floor once they open the second entrace that is at the second floor but they haven't opened it in that u can get out. u can get in but not out of the second floor. I think that my car is oversized because by oversized, it means not being able to fit and i cant go to the second floor. no where does it says for trucks or vans, but it says for oversized vehicles and i had parked in the same area on the first floor for a good year since it has been opened and this was the first instance i had.
i did have this one guy who works there at hte university that i attend leave threatening notes on my car saying how it wasn't oversized and **** and then i got my parents involved and well he stopped very fast. i think he was the one who called the cops on me that one day cuz they said it was an administrator at the university. i found it funny how he calls the borough when they have there own police station at the university and there own parking police. i wrote all that on the appeal and it was taken off and i didn't have to pay it cuz obviously it was a misunderstanding and if they had a problem wtih me parking there they would post signs being more specific and maybe they would open the second entrance so i can get up to the second floor.
do i have the right to park there u think? saying my car is oversized considering if i go over the speed bump it scrapes up the side skirts and bottom of my car? im just wondering if i have a case in that, cuz they have to make the garage available to everyone, for example: people who have tall vehicles, people who are disabled and i guess people who have low cars too. is that even a point to bring up or no? j/w. i wont be parking there anymore next semester but i just thought i would clear up everything on this situation and why i got the ticket.
